The strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is a fruit grown and loved worldwide because of its delicious flavour and fragrance. The pretty heart shaped beauty has long been a symbol of purity and passion. The earliest mention of these little lovelies was in Roman times around 200BC and in medieval England newly weds enjoyed strawberries, borage and soured cream for their wedding breakfast believing the concoction to be an aphrodisiac.
There is, however absolutely nothing to compare to the divine taste of an English strawberry we think, they herald the arrival of the summer. We use only English strawberries lovingly hand selected when they are bursting with flavour and oozing the essence of the best of the English Summer. An essential ingredient for the scone and cream, perfect with crumpets or on toast, sublime in jam tarts – anyone for tea?
